Serta Simmons Bedding Opens New Manufacturing Plant in Houston
New Facilities Part of $100 Million Manufacturing Investment
HOUSTON (October 6, 2017) – Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC (“SSB”), the largest manufacturer and distributor of mattresses in the United States, has opened a new manufacturing plant, relocating from a former site in Houston.
The new plant allows for more operational capacity and is part of SSB’s recently announced plan to expand its manufacturing footprint and support increased consumer demand.
“SSB’s new Houston plant is an important part of our strategy to increase manufacturing capacity,” said Michael Traub, CEO of Serta Simmons Bedding. “By introducing new technology, adding headcount where necessary and expanding certain facilities, SSB intends to position itself to meet increased demand from customers across North America.”
The plant, which is four times the size of the previous Houston facility, employs approximately 100 people and produces more than 1,000 mattresses per day. The mattresses made in the Houston facility are built and shipped throughout the southwest region, fulfilling orders generally in less than 72 hours.
In addition to Houston, SSB plans to open new plants in Seattle; Moreno Valley, California; and Windsor Locks, Connecticut. SSB also plans to relocate to a new headquarters in Doraville, Georgia by early 2019. The move will bring 500 Serta, Beautyrest and SSB corporate employees together under one roof for the first time.
